The Legion of Super-Heroes faces one of their most bizarre and formidable enemies yet: the enigmatic Starfinger, a villain whose high-tech glove unleashes a variety of deadly powers. As the story begins, Starfinger makes a dramatic debut by attacking the interplanetary mineral Mon-El and Element Lad are transporting, stealing it with his strange powers. His attacks prove destructive and puzzling, leaving the Legion struggling to counteract him.Starfinger’s glove, equipped with different “fingers” that emit unique abilities—such as deadly rays and powerful magnetic fields—keeps the team on their toes. Meanwhile, Starfinger demands a ransom to stop his reign of terror, threatening widespread destruction if his demands aren't met.
Suspicion falls on Legionnaire Lightning Lad, whose recent erratic behavior raises questions about his loyalty. A trail of clues eventually uncovers Starfinger's true identity: Dr. Lars Hanscom, a respected scientist, who has been secretly controlling Lightning Lad through hypnosis to carry out his villainous schemes.
In a climactic battle, the Legion neutralizes Starfinger’s glove and brings Hanscom to justice. The story concludes with the Legion reflecting on the dangers of deception and the importance of vigilance within their ranks.
This issue is notable for introducing Starfinger, a recurring antagonist in Legion lore, whose unique weapon and theatrical persona made him a memorable foe.
