Hey There

I started reading comics in the mid 70's when I was about 7 or 8 years old, but my love affair with comics began specifically on June 26th, 1979 when Iron Man #126 hit the newsstands.  It was one of the coolest thing I had ever seen... and is probably still in the top 10.  I still remember buying it, taking it home with me and reading it over and over again.

At the time, I didn't really "know anything" about comics.  I didn't know the cover was an homage to Tales of Suspense #39 - I didn't even know the word homage.  I didn't know it was part of a (very) controversial story arc (Demon in a Bottle).  I didn't know it was penciled by a guy whose dad was a also a comic book artist and legend.  I just knew it was amazing, and it still is.  To this day, I am still a die-hard Iron Man fan.

From that day on, I was well and truly hooked.  I spent countless hours pouring over the adventures of iconic characters and exploring the rich narratives that comics had to offer. 

 

A few years later when I was 14, I got my very first job at a comic book store.  During my time there, comic books changed: Frank Miller's Daredevil and Dark Knight.  Alan Moore's Swamp thing.  These weren't just zip-pow comic books.  These were sophisticated stories, beautifully written.  This was artwork masterfully rendered.  As my collection grew, so did my appreciation for the artistry and storytelling that defines this great American folk art, and my amazement over its profound impact on popular culture.   

 

But life happens and I drifted away from comics to attend college, raise a family, launch a career  - you know, grown up stuff.  And then a couple years ago I dug my collection out and remembered why I fell in love.

   

Now my passion has evolved into a mission to share my love for comics with others.
